I did my training at Pacific Rim College in Victoria BC. This program helped me in so many ways, it was such a transformational experience for me, as it drew me deeper and deeper into myself, I learned so much about who I was and what I wanted. I embraced my fears and weaknesses, as well as my strengths. I felt so much love and support from the 14 other ladies, found my sisters, my clan. This was something I didn't expect at all, to become so connected and loved by the ladies who shared this journey with me. We will be connected for life.

All of our teachers are phenomenal humans, so passionate about what they taught. I would have to say in all my years of university I have only twice found professors that were as passionate and eager to share their knowledge as my teachers in the doula program. They seemed just as excited as we were about what we were learning, so excited to have some holistic doulas in the world!

Each week of class I felt like I was filled to the brim with knowledge, wondering how I could fit more into my mind, how it would ever all be absorbed, but a lot of it has. One of our teachers told us that we shouldn't worry that we aren't absorbing it all, that we don't realize how much knowledge has passively integrated into our minds, and she was right! It's amazing how someone will bring up a topic and 10 things fly out of my mouth before I even have the chance to realize I am saying anything….

We did 270 hours of classtime, plus the readings and research and presentations that we did. If you would like a run down of the program here it is PRC Holistic Doula Program.

Before I went to doula school I spent a number of years at UVIC. I mainly studied psychology (was planning on becoming a counsellor), but in the beginning of my university career I studied Philosophy and Environmental Studies. After the doula program, I went back to school and did the Restoration of Natural Systems Diploma Program through UVic’s Continuing studies.
